The vented holes allow steam to release evenly, preventing condensation, while ensuring food doesn't dry out, making reheating food easy and effective. Along with its main purpose being for the microwave, the food cover can be flipped and used as a colander to rinse and strain vegetables, allowing the water to drain through the vent holes. Wash by giving the cover a quick wipe, or via the dishwasher. When not in use, simply collapse the cover and store.
